Lisa Newell
Parent Coordinator
My name is Lisa Newell my husband and Troy are native North Carolinians. We have two beautiful girls who are 7 and 8. One of them is a self proclaimed tom boy and the other is a girly girl. When I heard about In His Steps I was excited. I've hesitated all these years to put them in the typical dance classes. One the cost and two the provocative moves that they would be exposed to. When I was asked to be involved I thought to myself well surely they can't use me as a teacher BUT amazingly enough I have found my home in welcoming the girls and their families each time and I love it. The best part is to see a girl come in the beginning of a session timid and nervous and after a few classes those same little sweet smiling faces are just bursting with excitement.
As we went to competition last year I thought to myself...what are we doing here? Most of the dance troops there had been dancing together for years, we had only been dancing for a few months. I was so nervous for our girls...what are we doing here , look at the makeup, the costumes and the moves? Our girls were so excited to be there THEY GOT IT.... Well, they got up there, danced their hearts out and WON! They won a gold medal I finally understood...it wasn't about any of our concerns THEY ARE DANCING FOR AN AUDIENCE OF ONE....I learned from them!

I have been a member of the Cove Church for 5 years. I LOVE dancing and have done it all of my life. I have been teaching with In His Steps for 3 years and have enjoyed getting to know the girls and helping them build a stronger relationship with Christ. It has brought me a lot of joy to see the girls grow spiritually. I am also a teacher at Lincoln Charter School where I teach US History and Psychology. I also coach Varsity Cheerleading and softball.

I was born and raised in Huntersville, NC and have been dancing since the age of three. I am so grateful that God has given me the ability and passion to enjoy dance and be able to continue it in college and also now at this point in my life. I graduated from Elon University with a business and dance degree and was a member of the varsity dance team. I continued to help my community when I returned home and volunteered with the Davidson College dance team. I’m excited and honored to now get the opportunity to join this great ministry. I look forward to getting to know each one of the girls and helping them grow as a individual.

Jackie Brown
Jackie Brown says she’s not a Drama Queen - but she has a heart for drama and a heart for Jesus! She has performed onstage and worked backstage in various productions at the Hickory Community Theatre and the Hickory Youth Theatre. She started Parables, a Christian drama team in Lenoir and continued to write, direct and perform with them 8 years before moving to Statesville. Upon arrival in Statesville, she teamed with the Iredell Senior Center and started the Senior CenterStage Drama Troupe which performs at many functions – mostly churches – in Statesville and the surrounding area. Jackie is excited to join us at In His Steps, and looks forward to working with young ladies in their search for finding themselves in today’s confusing world
